Watchmaking Excellence: From Classic to Custom Movement Decoration

Backes & Strauss classic collection features three types of movements: Mechanical, which is comprised of Manual and Automatic, and Quartz. However, the most exquisite of Backes & Strauss’ diamond watches house the bespoke movements.

To amplify the exclusivity of a timepiece, Backes & Strauss watchmakers decorate the movement surfaces with traditional or bespoke motifs. Alongside the classic movements, Backes & Strauss also offer bespoke movement decorations, which are generally realised on the oscillating weight and the movement bridges. Every Backes & Strauss timepiece comes with a two-year free service entitlement as well as a guarantee booklet, where you will find details on how to care for your watch movement.

Each classic watch is set with at least one Ideal Cut diamond in the crown, a real signature of the brand. Baguette cut diamonds are used for its Masterpieces.
A variety of other cuts are used for ladies’ watches with diamond bracelets. When creating its watches, Backes & Strauss uses diamonds, which are graded as Flawless, Internally Flawless and Very Very Slightly Included. Our masterpieces come with a booklet, which includes the GIA certificate for each of the diamonds within the watch to evident its clarity, colour, cut and weight.

Bespoke Cases:

From the carefully curated classic case shapes, the customer is able to choose the material, type of the setting, variety of ethically sourced high-quality gemstones, cut to fire out its best brilliance.
Additionally, Backes & Strauss offers the personalised options, bespoke engravings at the back of the case and movement decoration, which will meet the expectations of the more discerning clientele.

Bespoke Cases:

Backes & Strauss cases can be fully set, with diamonds in the bezel and lugs. In fact, one of the oldest gem-setting techniques is the serti clos or bezel setting.
The invisible setting or serti invisible is a truly magical technique. It entails creating tiny grooves in the lower part of the gemstone, in such a way that the gems slip effortlessly into an extremely thin metal rail. A more robust technique, the grave or pave setting (serti grain ou pavé) features many smaller and rounder diamonds of identical sizes and dimensions, set very closely together.
One of the more complex gem-setting techniques is the serti neige or snow setting. As the name alludes, the technique mimics the beauty of fallen snow and is based solely on the creative impulses of the setter.
