craftsmanship:behind the scene
-

1. DESIGN & PLANNING
Our bejewelled watches, all hand crafted in Switzerland, are inspired by Regency era England and its neo-classical architecture, most notably the work of John Nash.
-

2. DIAMOND CUTTING & FINISHING
During hundreds of hours of meticulous planning, precision cutting and hand polishing by Backes & Strauss diamond experts, a natural stone makes the way from its rough form to a final polished brilliant diamond often losing up to 60 percent of its original weight in the process.
-

3. DIAMOND SORTING & SELECTION
The ultimate test of Backes & Strauss expertise in diamond cutting is the Hearts and Arrows motif. Hearts and Arrows diamonds are the most brilliant and magnificent Ideal Cut diamonds.
-

4. DIAMOND SETTING
All our diamonds are meticulously hand-set by our master diamond setters. Every Backes & Strauss timepiece has at least 1 single diamond set into the crown, more commonly known as the Backes & Strauss ‘Jewel in the Crown’.
-

5. WATCHMAKING
All Backes & Strauss timepieces are manufactured in the Franck Muller workshops in Switzerland. The Franck Muller Group is renowned worldwide for its innovative and technical brilliance; it is one of the remaining manufactures that conceives, produces and assembles the entirety of its watch and components in Switzerland.

6. DIAL MAKING
Every numeral and index is polished by hand and carefully applied to the dial paralleling the hand-polishing and setting of a diamond.
